Signals and notifications
Signals bring problems to your attention even when no task page is open. They can describe an approaching deadline, overdue work, a prolonged block or a Queue that needs help. Open the task, take the appropriate ordinary action, and use History to see what changed.
Read a signal
Section titled “Read a signal”The Task grid has a Signals column. The full page shows a ribbon below the header; select a signal for details. The preview drawer shows compact alerts above Overview, even when Overview is collapsed. Queue signals describe the Queue and are not copied onto each task. Access changes may make a signal unavailable.
Warning and Danger before a deadline use the configured time thresholds. Unfinished work becomes Overdue at its due time, including without a profile. Changing the due date, completing work or resolving the cause updates the signal. The screen shows the strongest current deadline condition.
Work Inbox notifies the configured, authorized recipients when a relevant change occurs. Refreshing a page does not send the same notification again. Signals and notifications do not automatically change priority, move or complete work.
Read, acknowledge and resolve
Section titled “Read, acknowledge and resolve”| Action | Effect |
|---|---|
| Read, archive or snooze | Your personal handling of the Inbox item. |
| Acknowledge, where available | Records who acknowledged one administrative exception, when, and an optional shared note. |
| Resolve the cause | Changes the actual Task or Queue condition through its ordinary actions. |
Normal deadline and count warnings need no acknowledgement. For a supported administrative exception, an eligible recipient can use Acknowledge in Work Inbox. This does not complete the task, remove its block or grant access. A new occurrence does not inherit an older acknowledgement. Notes remain restricted to the authorized audience.
Configure signals
Section titled “Configure signals”Users with Tasks Configuration Management can open Signal profiles:
- Set optional Warning and Danger minutes before the deadline. Leave a value empty to disable it. Warning must occur before Danger when both are set.
- Add signal policies only where notifications or recipient choices are needed. Choose the audience and whether to notify on activation, higher severity or audience change.
- Bind the profile on the Task Definition or Queue.
A Definition profile takes precedence over the Queue profile. A disabled bound Definition profile does not fall through to the Queue; removing the binding does. Recipients still need current access. Default policies send no transition notifications and require no acknowledgement. Assignment notifications remain independent. Re-enabling Work Inbox does not replay all earlier alerts.
